Michel Plasson, is one of the most important French conductors of the later twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, as well as the winner of the 1962 International Besan?on Competition for Young Conductors. French music has occupied the entire life of conductor Michel Plasson. He studied with other famed conductors including Erich Leinsdorf, Pierre Monteux, Charles M?nch and Leopold Stokowski. Plasson is also known for surrounding himself with outstanding soloists, such as Francois Rene Duchable, Augustin Dumay, Rolando Villazon, Barbara Hendricks, Anne Sophie von Otter, Jos? Van Dam and others.Best known for his interpretations of French Opera, particularly those of Gounod and Massenet, Michel Plasson has also received praise for his work with the choral music of Durufl? and Faur?, as well as the orchestral works of Magnard, Ravel, and other French composers. He has not, however, limited himself to a completely French repertory, having conducted (and recorded) the Rachmaninov piano concertos with soloist Jean-Philippe Collard, the Brahms "Schicksalslied," and works by Wagner and Verdi.
